The Ruby Slippers

DH and I enjoyed viewing The Wizard of Oz on TNT last night, and it brought back childhood memories of seeing the film and of reading some magical children's books.

L. Frank Baum, who wrote The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, was a prolific writer who penned 13 sequels to the original book. He authored 55 novels in total, along with all of his other writings. As a child, I read many of his books, and I still remember thinking what a treasure they were.

Perhaps the movie, and my fond memories of those books, were the reason I fell in love with the shoes.

I spotted them in a store right after our beach trip was canceled due to a hurricane. They were a wonder--they looked like Dorothy's ruby slippers, and I knew they were coming home with me. When I showed them to my female friends who were visiting for dinner one night, they all sighed "Ohhhh!" in unison. It's not a rational thing, I know, but there you are. It's a woman thing.

My daughter-in-law oohed and aahed too. When I said, "I want to wear them to the symphony, but I'm not sure they're comfortable enough to wear that long," she replied, "That's okay." "You can always take another pair in your bag in case you need to slip the ruby slippers off." "What a great solution!" I responded. Mommadrool is a wise woman.

I wore them to the concert--I felt like they might be magical. At the very least, they made me feel magical. As I awaited DH after the concert ended, I sat down in the emptying hall and changed into my other, more comfy pumps. "I know what you're going through," said a couple of older ladies nearby.

But I don't care. If I never wear them again, I'm still delirious to have them. I think they're a work of art, and just looking at them makes me happy.

It's a woman thing.

Aaaaaaah..~! Those shoes are so pretty!!! You should wear them to the Arsenal concert and the ClefWorks concert! (Arsenal would fit better as the team color is maroon-red. hehehe.)
Hope you are doing well~~ (how come you are not doing facebook? or are you?)
