Thinking about Retirement

The other day, I had a one-hour telephone conference with a Certified Financial Planner who went over our financial plan for retirement to make sure we were on the right track. We had sat down a few years ago to try to determine what we would need for retirement income, and to ascertain whether we could get there from here, but we were due for a revisit.

Later that weekend, our friend Bevnev said, “Are you looking forward to retirement?” “I don’t really know,” I replied. “I haven’t thought much about it, except that I started my business with a view toward doing that into our retirement years.”

Later we went to dinner with Bevnev and Two-Joke Limit. Bevnev is semi-retired, and TJL is recently retired. He has made some lifestyle changes.

TS: You don’t eat chocolate, do you?
TJL: Why, yes, I’ve started eating chocolate now. Drinking coffee, too.
TS: Really? You’re going in an unusual direction. Most folks start to give up things, but you’re adding them in. Bevnev, the next thing you know, he’ll be drinking whiskey and smoking cigarettes.
TJL: You didn’t mention loose women.
TS: I’m not going there.
